For 24 hours I was tasked to track my media usage. Although I did this last week, this time it was about the media I consume and create. This week in class we learned about privacy, or the lack thereof, when it comes to media and the internet.
I went on a mini vacation to Tucson, Arizona from September 6th-10th. Since I was away from work, there was plenty of time for me to do homework, create content for social media, and scroll endlessly. Tuesday the 9th was my roommate (and best friend)’s birthday. So the first thing I did at midnight was wish her a happy birthday over text. I went to sleep after that since it was only 10pm AZ time but midnight in MN where we live. Once I woke up and snoozed my phone’s alarm around 6:30am. However I guess I hit stop and not snooze since my next alarm woke me up at 7:45am to remind me about the Ariana Grande concert presale at 8am. I rushed out of bed to open my computer and enter the waiting room. I was in that Ticket master queue for an hour and a half, and newsflash, didn’t get tickets when I got in, even though I was 20,000th in line. Then I joined a new queue for a different date, that only took 30 minutes but again, nothing left. I did all of this while scrolling on Tiktok and doing my physical therapy exercises to be productive and all. The only provacy concern towards this media experience would be the location services my phone or computer would use to determine the closest show to me. I usually keep locations off though. Once the disappointment hours were over I put my airpods in and went for a walk in the 95 degree heat. I would pull out my phone and snapchat people a few times but mostly kept my phone in my bag since I didn’t want it overheating. I walked for about 2 hours and survived somehow.
Now that it is around noon, I needed to cool off in the AC. So I decided to pull out my computer and do some homework (for another class), after all it was due that night. After doing my discussion post and one of three peer responses, it was break time. So I drove to dutch bros since Minnesota doesn’t have it, then I called my roommate and wished her a happy birthday. Oh and I almost forgot, I went on the massage envy site on my phone to get her a birthday gift card! Now it is time to create some content since Tiktok is a side hustle for me. I grabbed my parents for this one. I made a “someone in this circle” trend with them and then my dad and I pulled a prank trend on my mom where I give him all the answers to questions about me. I edited those videos and posted one along with a skit I had made a year ago and reposted. Since I was already scrolling I posted an Instagram birthday post for my roommate. My parents and I played some pickleball outside for an hour and when we got back we all started to get ready for dinner. They wanted to take me to their favorite Italian place in Tucson. Naturally I took a few selfies on snap chat but I got car sick on my phone so put that away. I kept my phone off to be present at dinner, but when the sunset started I had to step outside and take some pictures.

Breathtaking right?? Well of course I posted this to my snapchat story. I did not include the location since that could be a breach of privacy and I was still there. The next day I did post it to my IG story on my personal account with the location. I refrained from posting any identifying pictures or locations on my business account since it has 20k followers and my profile gets almost 1 million views in a month. Once I got back to MN I posted some AZ pics to my business account (@insydemymind_) but I was back home so I felt safe to share. When we got back from the restaurant, I had to finish my homework. That took me until about 10:30pm since I was tired which made me work slower. Immediately went to bed and slept great. That was a pretty good 24 hours for me and I felt I got a lot done, but that’s what vacation is for right?!
